Strategic target state

Your directors use the same words and mean different things

That only surfaces when you prioritise or invest. Writing a vision feels like a language exercise but is a thinking exercise, and the result is a vision nobody contradicts and therefore nobody steers by. Goals conflict — growth against margin, speed against care — and without a recorded weighting that gets settled again every week at department level.

1

Four layers, enforced

Vision, vision state, target, target state. You cannot save a target state that is not measurable and cannot be completed.

2

An ambition round

Every member writes ambitions; a per-sector ambition library steps in when it stalls; prioritising happens through a weighted vote.

3

A double test

Readiness on eight dimensions, and five confidence gates. One maturity level per twelve months per dimension — not three.

What it delivers

The tool enforces the four layers: a vision gives direction, a vision state says what "achieved" looks like in measurable terms, a target covers twelve months and a target state is concrete, measurable and time-bound. Ambitions may not overlap and a target state that is not completable cannot be saved. On top of that comes the double test — readiness on eight dimensions and five confidence gates — and a capability translation: what the organisation must be able to do, which roles that needs, and where the decision rights sit.

How it works

Explain and invite

A short module brings every participant to the same starting point. Directors and a broader layer are invited, each with their own scope.

The theme round

Structured theme questionnaires go out across the organisation — the shop floor often knows the playing field better than the board does.

The ambition round

Everyone writes ambitions, overlap is detected, measurability is enforced, and priorities come out of a weighted vote.

The double test

Eight dimensions and five gates. What does not clear a gate is adjusted or phased, with the reason recorded, and every ambition gets its recognition signals.

What this is not

  • No vision text written for you. The tool forces the thinking and checks the result. The words stay yours; that is the only way anyone will steer by them.
  • No wall of sticky notes. The ambition round is online and asynchronous. The physical session exists as outcome route 2, with a partner.
  • No ambition that cannot be finished. A target state without a completion percentage cannot be saved. That is a hard rule, and it is the point of the tool.

Three outcomes

Every report ends in three routes. You choose; we deliver the analysis, not the engagement.

1

Do it yourself

Per ambition the roadmap: capability gaps, roles, decision rights, a quarterly rhythm, the recognition-signal checklist, and agenda templates for your own quarterly review.

2

Partly guided

A partner facilitates the physical ambition session on top of the digital round; the tool stays the dossier.

3

Outsource it

A full ambition engagement with the partner, with the report as the starting dossier.

The next step

A target state asks something of the organisation

The capability translation is the bridge: the roles and tasks your target state asks for, next to the roles and tasks you have today. See the difference in hours — and which part AI takes over so the ambition fits the organisation you already have.
